What is a 10DLC Campaign?
A 10DLC campaign refers to the specific text messaging use case registered with mobile carriers in the United States when using a 10-digit long code (10DLC) number. This is a compliance requirement mandated by U.S. mobile carriers to ensure trust and reduce unwanted or spam messages.
Why Do I Need a Campaign?
Even if you are:
- Sending one-on-one messages to customers,
- Using texting for internal communications,
- Sending low-volume messages,
...you are still required to register a 10DLC campaign. The carriers evaluate the intended use case of your messaging — not the volume — to determine compliance.
What is Considered a "Campaign"?
In 10DLC terminology, a “campaign” refers to the specific purpose or use case of your text messaging. Examples include:
- Customer service or support communication
- Appointment reminders
- Internal alerts or notifications to staff
- Promotions or marketing messages
- Polling, surveys, or fundraising
When you register a campaign, you specify this use case so that carriers know how your number will be used.
Costs Associated with 10DLC Campaigns
Registering a 10DLC campaign requires:
- A one-time setup fee of $15
- A monthly recurring fee of $10 per campaign
These fees are set by The Campaign Registry (TCR) and U.S. mobile carriers. They apply regardless of your message volume or whether you're texting customers or employees.
Is This Optional?
No — 10DLC registration is mandatory for any business texting from a 10-digit long code in the United States. Carriers may block or filter messages from unregistered numbers.
